The Money Laundering Act is a hot potato. There are severe penalties for negligence and breaches of the law - including for companies and financial institutions.
One thing is clear: the fight against money laundering will involve additional work for banks. But what can they actually do?
Two-speed IT
Dr. Lars Rüsberg, consultant at afb, was asked for his expert opinion for this article in the Wirtschaftszeitung:
"What is needed today are applications that can be quickly adapted to new requirements. This apparent contradiction can be resolved by so-called bimodal IT or 'two-speed IT'. Tried and tested existing systems continue to do their job, but are supplemented by innovative solutions, particularly at the customer interface, and provide the much-needed flexibility."
