afb Market and Innovation Event 2014: Over 70 participants discussed business, innovation and transformation

Focus on the future - success needs new perspectives

On April 3, 2014, afb presented to numerous specialists and executives from the financial services industry at the SkyLounge in Munich under the motto "Business. Innovation. Transformation. New perspectives for the financial world", which highlighted new trends, presented innovative implementation options and provided a suitable platform for stimulating discussions.

Time travel, the Internet of Things and drowning polar bears

In the morning, keynote presentations allowed participants to travel back in time to the innovations of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Prof. Dr. Elgar Fleisch, Director of the Institute of Technology Management at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and Professor of Information Management at ETH Zurich, presented the "Internet of Things" and its impact on current and future business processes. In his entertaining presentation, he inspired the participants with innovations that have already been implemented, are currently in the test phase and are conceivable in the future. For example, the participants learned that people take shorter showers for psychological reasons when confronted with a display showing a polar bear threatening to drown as water consumption increases.

Innovation put into practice

In the afternoon, the focus was on the practical implementation of innovative solutions. Helmut Lenz, Head of Dealer Wholesale Finance at S-Kreditpartner GmbH, illustrated innovative aspects of credit assessment in wholesale finance.

A highlight of the afb Market and Innovation Event were the interactive sessions of the "Speed Innovation Market". Following the example of "speed dating", participants had the opportunity to visit various themed tables and get to know both the people sitting next to them and the topics in a given time. The topics available were mobile payment, data security, social media, vehicle valuation, computer vision technology, liquidity management and reporting factory in the Back office. Due to the intimate size of the small groups, new trends were discussed in lively discussions, new insights were gained and initial ideas for innovation strategies were generated.
